Cocodrie
is a very early, semidwarf long-grain variety that has displayed
excellent yield potential. It is about the same height as Cypress
but has displayed somewhat better resistance to lodging. Cocodrie
averages four to five fewer days to 50 percent heading than Cypress.
The new variety has displayed good second crop potential. It has
displayed good milling characteristics and good seedling vigor.
Cocodrie is susceptible to sheath blight and straighthead and moderately
susceptible to blast.*taken from LSU Ag Center
Jefferson
is a semidwarf long-grain that is approximately three to four days
earlier than Cocodrie. It is about the same height as Lemont and
is highly resistant to lodging. Milling yields are good, but seedling
vigor is fair. Shallow seeding and/or gibberellic acid seed treatment
will enhance establishment. Jefferson is susceptible to sheath blight
and moderately susceptible to blast. Because of the large seed size
and reduced tillering ability relative to other semidwarfs, the
planting rate should be increased by 15 percent.*taken from LSU
Ag Center
Wells
A short season, long grain with excellent yield potential, average to good millin31g
quality, large kernel size similar to Lemont, but is susceptible to rice blast.
Only moderately susceptible to kernel smut and most other diseases and is the most
widely adapted long grain rice in Arkansas.
CL131 is a very early maturing semi dwarf, long grain rice variety that provides excellent yield
and grain quality potential with high tolerance to Newpath herbicide. CL131 is somewhat shorter
in height than CL161, similar in maturity to Cocodrie, and 4 to 5 days earlier than Cypress,
CL161 and Cheniere. CL131 appears to have good straw strength and resistance to lodging.
Evaluations indicate high susceptibility to sheath blight and straighthead as well as
susceptibility to blast. CL131 has good adaptability across the entire southern rice growing
area with excellent second crop potential.
CL151 developed at the LSU AgCenter, CL151 is expected to offer significant yield improvements over existing CLEARFIELD lines. Milling and grain quality appear to be excellent. Its maturity is similar to CL131 and Cocodrie. CL151 is similar in stature to Cocodrie and has shown good straw strength in test plots. The disease package of CL151 shows some improvements over CL131 and CL161 and will continue to be evaluated prior to commercial launch.
CL171-AR developed by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, CL171-AR has Wells and CL161 in its parentage and will be the first Arkansas-developed CLEARFIELD release. Yield potential for CL171-AR is comparable to, or better than CL161. Testing shows that it offers a better disease package than CL131 and CL161 offering more tolerance to sheath blight.
CL161 (coming soon) is an early, semi-dwarf, long grain variety that
provides good yield potential and high tolerance to Newpath* herbicide.
It closely resembles Cypress in appearance, performance and maturity.
It has excellent seedling vigor and good standability. However,
this variety can be susceptible to lodging if excessively fertilized.
There is a limited amount of data available for CL161, but preliminary
evaluations indicate susceptibility to sheath blight and blast,
with moderate susceptibility to straighthead. Additional preliminary
data suggests that milling yields and the potential for a second
crop are very good.
